Advocacy
The Association’s CEO and Legislative Chair actively monitor insurance-related legislation on behalf of independent agents across New Mexico during each legislative session. We work to support legislative efforts that strengthen the independent agency system while opposing proposals that could negatively impact agents, their businesses, or the consumers they serve.
At the national level, the Big “I” Government Affairs team advocates year-round for independent agents on Capitol Hill—both publicly and behind the scenes. Big “I” leadership is consistently recognized among the most effective advocates in Washington, D.C., and is the only insurance agent or broker group regularly ranked among the top lobbying organizations.
New Mexico Legislature
During each legislative session, numerous bills are introduced that can directly or indirectly affect the insurance industry. Monitoring these proposals—and responding quickly when needed—is critical. Grassroots involvement from agents like you plays an important role in shaping outcomes at the Roundhouse. When lawmakers hear directly from the professionals who live and work in their districts, it makes a difference.
You can support advocacy efforts by staying informed and contacting your elected officials when legislation may impact your agency or your clients.

Supporting Advocacy That Supports You
InsurPac
InsurPac is the national political action committee for the Big “I” and one of the largest small-business PACs in the country. Each election cycle, InsurPac raises and distributes millions of dollars to support candidates who understand the value of independent agents and the importance of a competitive insurance marketplace.
InsurPac is funded through voluntary personal, LLC, and partnership contributions from independent agents, brokers, and agencies nationwide. Corporate contributions are not permitted. InsurPac works closely with the Big “I” advocacy team to promote, protect, and perpetuate the independent agency system.
Get Involved
Advocacy is strongest when agents are engaged. Whether it’s responding to an action alert, attending a Legislative Day, or contributing to InsurPac, your involvement helps ensure the voice of New Mexico’s independent agents is heard—at the Roundhouse and in Washington, D.C.
